Georgios P. Heliades is appointed as an Associate Professor at the Department of Digital Media and Communication of the Ionian University. He studied Computer Science in Greece, while receiving a master’s degree from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland, and a doctorate from the University of Loughborough, England. He has worked in England at the LUTCHI Research Center alongside pioneering names in the convergence of art and science. He has been involved in creative technology and the cognitive aspects of design, on which he has had a strong presence in international research programs and conferences, as well as a respectable number of publications in scientific journals. Spending five years in the European IT and telecommunications market as an executive, he returned to academia and the Ionian Islands Institute of Technology. He has taught at the Department of Audio from 2004 to 2013 (Head of Department 2007-2011) and at the Department of Public Relations and Communication from 2014 to 2018 (Head of Department). Since 2018, he has been serving as the Deputy Head of the Department of Digital Media and Communication at the Ionian University and as the Executive Director of the Media Influence and Interaction Laboratory. His research interests include the communication between people and technology, the digital arts and the application of digital media to education. He has recently directed and participated in a number of environmental and cultural IT projects.
