As part of the Ionian University's strategic initiative to strengthen digital literacy and meaningfully integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into higher education, the Department of Digital Media and Communication is enhancing its Undergraduate Study Programme by introducing three new courses that reflect the latest developments in Artificial Intelligence.

With this curriculum revision, students of the Department will have the opportunity to attend a total of four specialized AI courses, covering both the fundamental principles of Artificial Intelligence and its contemporary applications across different fields of Digital Media and Communication.

The courses are:

  • Introduction to Artificial Intelligence, an updated version of the existing course in the curriculum, which introduces students to the fundamental concepts of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and modern generative AI models.
  • Designing Interactive Digital Experiences with Artificial Intelligence, focusing on human-centered design, Human–AI Interaction, Prompt Engineering, AI-assisted development tools, and the creation of personalized digital experiences.
  • Digital Marketing with Artificial Intelligence, which explores the application of AI in content creation, digital campaign optimization, predictive analytics, conversational AI systems, and strategic decision-making in modern digital marketing.
  • Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and Business Analytics, which combines Data Science, Machine Learning, and Business Analytics techniques for data analysis, business decision support, and the development of AI applications for digital business environments.

Through these additions, the Department further strengthens the applied and interdisciplinary nature of its curriculum by integrating Artificial Intelligence with digital experience design, communication, digital marketing, data science, and contemporary digital business.

At the same time, all AI-related courses place particular emphasis on the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence, data privacy and protection, algorithmic transparency, ethics, and compliance with the European regulatory framework.

Transitional arrangements will apply to current students who still need to complete courses from the previous curriculum.

This curriculum enhancement reaffirms the Department of Digital Media and Communication's ongoing commitment to offering a modern, forward-looking study programme that responds to technological advances and the evolving needs of the labour market, equipping its graduates with cutting-edge knowledge and skills in the rapidly advancing field of Artificial Intelligence
