Summary
This doctoral thesis aims to provide answers to the universal need to find new practices for the distribution and capitalization of the value of journalistic content, but also the contribution of the public and citizens to the production of the journalistic product, which has led many international news organizations to adopt alternatives forms of capitalization and leverage of the added value of their content.
The importance of the findings of the thesis will determine the operational map of news websites and demonstrate possible differences or even advantages/disadvantages compared to existing practices with the aim of creating new communication models. More specifically, the aim is to study whether crowding and its various strategies - with social media now largely defining what we call the public sphere - as defined by the international literature, can be tools for dealing with important problems that they deal with online - and not only - communication media such as disinformation and fake news.
The methodology followed, and planned to be followed in the immediate future, concerns the empirical research by visiting websites and applications, the recording of qualitative and quantitative data and characteristics and their processing with statistical analysis, but also qualitative research using in-depth interviews of professionals and of Internet Media and Communication specialists. In addition, the aim of the thesis is to create and propose a new model for dealing with the phenomenon of fake news and disinformation, which has crowdsourcing strategies as its main tool.
