Tsipis Athanasios

Dr. Athanasios Tsipis is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Digital Media and Communication, Faculty of Information Science and Informatics, Ionian University (IU), Greece. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, a Master’s Degree in Informatics with a specialization in “Information Technologies and Information Systems”, and a Ph.D. Degree, following the completion of his doctoral dissertation titled “Network Resource Optimization in Cloud Computing Environments”, from the Department of Informatics at IU.

Since 2015, he has been actively engaged in research as a member of the “Networks, Multimedia, and Systems Security Laboratory” (NMSLab), participating in research and development (R&D)projects/programs, funded by the European Union (EU), National Greek Fundsor private sources, in the fields of Digital Culture and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Additionally, he has worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Audio and Visual Arts at IU, focusing on interaction and user experience in immersive digital art and cultural heritage environments. He has served as a Scientific Collaborator for the Region of Ionian Islands and as a scientific team member of the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands for the proposal of the local Sustainable Urban Development Strategy under the “IONIAN ISLANDS” Program 2021–2027. Furthermore, he has been employed in the Department of Networks & Telecommunicationsand the Department of Information Systems of the Directorate of Informatics & Networks at IU.

He has taught as an external scientific collaborator, adjunct lecturer and postgraduate scholar in undergraduate and postgraduate programs and has served as an Academic Scholar in various IU departments within the context of programs regarding the acquisition of academic didactic experience byyoung scientists.

His published work includes numerous research papers in reputable international scientific journals and peer-reviewed international conference proceedings. He has been invited as a reviewer for various journals and conferences and has participated in relevant scientific committees. In 2021, he was honored with the Best Paper Award from the 26th IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communications (IEEE ISCC 2021) for his work titled “Player Assignment in MEC Gaming for Social Interactivity and Server Provisioning Optimization”, while,in 2024, he was the recipient of the Best Paper Award from the 5th Pan-Hellenic Conference on Digital Cultural Heritage (EuroMed 2023) for his work on “Alternative Realities and Digital Applications for the Promotion of Architectural Heritage: The Case of Corfu and the v-Corfu Project” .

His research interests lie in the areas of Digital Culture, Educational Technology, Smart Cities, and Human-Computer Interaction, with a focus on topics related to:
