Short Description:
Mobile devices and especially smart devices (smartphones etc) are already a part of our every day lives. The aim of this course is for students to understand the working principles of these devices but also to acquire knowledge of the technologies that are used. The course analyzes both communication networks and devices (GPS, electronic compass, accelerometer, etc.), as well as, the applications that can be developed and use these available technologies.
The theoretical part of the course includes the following sections:
- Introduction to wireless and mobile communications.
- Wireless communication network technologies.
- Mobile Devices Market.
- Development platforms and operating systems (IoS and Android).
- Introduction to mobile devices applications.
- Android application development.
- Development of applications for IoS.
- Case studies of successful applications.
- Advertising on mobile devices.
- Location-based services. Examples and techniques.
- Mobile device security.
- Sensor networks – Internet of Things.
The laboratory part of the course includes the following sections:
- Integrated application development platforms for all operating systems.
- Development of IoS applications.
- Android application development.
Upon successful completion of the course students will be able to:
- Know the history and current state of mobile and smart devices.
- Know the basic operating systems of mobile devices.
- Know the basic application development platforms.
- Know the basics of advertising and Location Based Services on mobile devices.
- Be familiar with security issues on mobile devices.
- Develop simple applications for mobile devices.
