The course “Methods of Qualitative and Quantitative Research” introduces students to the practices related to the design and implementation of a scientific research of qualitative or quantitative nature. In this context, the “steps” of planning a research are analyzed one by one: a) its initial concerns and key assumptions, b) the relationship of inductive and deductive analysis practices, c) the relationship of dependent and independent variable, etc. ., from the interaction of which statistical comparisons emerge, correlations of objects, situations, factors and concepts, the importance of which the researcher is obliged to clarify through relevant bibliographic references.
Given that the empirical nature of a research presupposes an understanding and use of a language that describes, explains, and interprets the phenomena of the surrounding social (or other) reality, the aim of the course is, at a first level, to focus students on three an area of interest, that is, in a subject area such as, for example, tourism, domestic or school violence, Internet or drug addiction, attitudes towards politics and political parties, etc. and, subsequently, the formulation of a central question to be investigated.
Upon successful completion of the course students will know how:
- To design a survey.
- To put her research cases correctly.
- To associate in a single research plan those factors that affect the central question with the research hypotheses of their study.
- To critically articulate their thoughts and concerns.
- To conclude with substantiated conclusions.
